Hyderabad receives respite from sweltering heat as rain lashes the city

Hyderabadis woke up to cloudy skies, thunderstorms and rain on Saturday morning, a much needed break from the sweltering heat of summer.

Rain lashed several parts of the city including Basheerbagh, Khairatabad, Nampally, Saroornagar, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Kachiguda, Manikonda, Banjara Hills among others.

In recent days, temperature in Hyderabad was consistently above 40 degrees Celsius, forming heatwave conditions. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be 37 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.

Thunderstorms and lightning along with rain were seen on Saturday morning in Warangal, Siddipet, Medak, Siricilla, Kamareddy, Jangaon districts.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department in its forecast said that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is very likely to occur in Warangal, Hanmakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Medak, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy,Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy districts of the state.

Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms will continue in these areas for the next two days and no large change in the maximum temperature, weather department stated.

Independent weather expert T Balaji said, “Already raining in South HYD, now North too picking up. The rain which we were waiting since 5 months is here.”
