Moscow: Amid ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, Russia may supply several weapons to Iran, including the S400 Air defence system. As per media reports, a 17-member Iranian delegation visited Russia recently. During the visit, a Russian arms company took the delegation to its weapon factories.

Iranian delegation visited Russia last month

It may be noted that the factory, NPP Start, has already been sanctioned by the United States for allegedly supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine. Amonong weapons manufactured by it include mobile launchers and other parts of anti-aircraft batteries, which include Russia’s S-400. Importantly, a leaked Russian document which was posted online in February this year, described the delegations tour as “scientific and technical potential and production capabilities” that Russia offers to Iran.

However, it is unclear whether the visit directly led to the purchase, the Washington Post reported. As per defence experts, the trip is a sign of increasing partnership between Russia and Iran in the since the invasion of Ukraine by Moscow, around two years ago. According to the report, the alliance between both countries can emerge as an important factor.

G-7 issues warning to Iran

Earlier on Friday, the G-7 issued a warning to Iran not to send ballistic missiles to Russia. Issuing a statement, it said such a move may lead to “new and significant measures against Iran.” The warning had come just hours after Israel’s retaliatory strike on Iran.

“We call on Iran not to do so, as it would represent a substantive material escalation in its support for Russia’s war in Ukraine,” the G7 statement read. It added in case Iran continues to do so, “we are prepared to respond in a swift and coordinated manner, including with new and significant measures against Iran.”
