Posted by New Delhi: Mumbai Indians will miss the services of their star batter Suryakumar Yadav for few more games of the Indian Premier League 2024 as he is yet to recover fully from the the hernia surgery he underwent. Suryakumar, who is yet to participate in the premier tournament, missed the opening two matches of the MI franchise against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad, which were lost by Mumbai.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has provided an official update about the star batter’s participation in the event, saying that he is making a recovery but will have to sit out for few more matches of Mumbai Indians. After facing a heavy defeat against Sunrisers, Mumbai next host Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on April 1.
BCCI prioritising Suryakumar’s health
While most of the MI fans believe that his absence is a crucial factor behind Mumbai’s back-to-back defeats in the event. For the spectators, his presence in the tournament is of utmost importance while the Indian Cricket Board is prioritizing his health and fitness up and above the factor of participating in the IPL. Keeping in view the T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in June, the Indian cricket board does not want to take any decision pertaining to return in a haste.
“Surya is making very good progress and very soon he will be back playing for MI. However, he might have to sit out for a few more games, having missed the first two, a BCCI source said. For BCCI, the main concern is if he is on course for World T20 which he is. He will play for MI but after a sports hernia surgery, he can’t be rushed,” the source added.
Suryakumar’s participation in the shortest format of the game, especially the IPL, is very importance considering his prowess in the format. The Mumbai batter has an impressive strike rate of over 170 in T20 cricket and has accumulated more than 2000 runs. Apart from this, he has four hundreds and 17 fifties to his name.
