In all, 33 constituencies have polled more than 70% votes till 7 p.m. while Chennai Central is in the last with 67.35% votes. Since still polling in many booths is going on, the polling percentage will go up slightly when the final percentage is calculated.
The highest voter turnout was 75.69% in Kallakurichi, while Central Chennai recorded the lowest in the state at 67.35% votes.
In the last general election held in 2019, the final turnout in Tamil Nadu was 72.44 percent. The highest turnout in the Dharmapuri constituency was 82.41% and the lowest was in the Chennai South constituency at 57.07%
Annamalai Demands Re-poll in Several Places in Coimbatore, Alleges ‘Political Interference’
Tamil Nadu BJP chief and Party’s Coimbatore candidate K Annamalai complained of 1 lakh votes being deleted from the voters list by the Election Commission. The BJP leader alleged “some political interference” to wipe out a large number of their cadre from the voter’s list.
EVM malfunctioning in Chennai
EVM malfunctioning was reported in Chennai. Votes are going to the BJP candidate no matter which button was pressed. Partymen from the rival alliances led by AIADMK and DMK staged a protest in Chennai after complaints of EVM malfunctioning surfaced. The issue was resolved immediately and polling restarted without much delay. Poll officials said the complaints were unfounded
Vengiavayal resident finally cast their votes
Revenue officials persuaded Dalit residents of Vengaivayal in Tiruchi constituency, who had threatened to boycott polls in protest over the failure of police to crack the case on missing human faeces in an overhead water tank to vote just before polling comes to an end.
